College Paper Writing Tips: How to Write Like a Pro?

This article will give you some tips on how to write your college paper like a pro so that it will be on time and get you the grade you need.

Step 1: Assess the Paper

Before you begin writing, do yourself a favor and stop to consider what it is you’re trying to say. Sure, it’s college—but that doesn’t mean an A is just going to be handed over out of sympathy. Think about whether your essay answers these questions. 

(1) What is my thesis? 
(2) Why should I care? 
(3) What evidence do I have? 

Step 2: Outline

Before you start writing, take time to think about how you want your paper to be structured. Do you want an introduction? A thesis statement? What body paragraphs do you need and in what order will they go? While it’s often tempting to skip these steps and jump straight into writing, putting in some effort before sitting down at your desk can save you time later on.

Step 3: Brainstorm

Begin with an H2 heading, one that shows you’re leading into your key points. A good rule of thumb is that if it takes more than 5 seconds for someone to understand what you’re trying to say, you probably need another subheading. A standard essay has two or three sections (three is preferable), and so when writing your first draft, just start with headings like Introduction, Body Paragraph 1, etc.

Step 7. Proofread Section Headings

When proofreading your essay, it’s important to pay attention to anything that stands out. Specifically, you want to make sure all of your section headings are consistent with one another and fit in with everything else on your page.

If you have an opinion piece, for example, make sure every section heading includes an opinion somewhere in its title. Also, if you have multiple sections within a particular topic (i.e., three different subheadings), be sure each subheading has an appropriate level of detail (i.e., not too broad or too narrow). This will help keep your essay organized and ensure that readers don’t get lost along the way.
